A Shiny Catch Worth Holding Onto

Today I want to share a fun piece of artwork I created that celebrates one of the most unlikely treasures in the Pokémon world: a shiny Magikarp. In this drawing, I went for a bold, comic-style look, full of energy and exaggerated excitement. The background bursts with sharp red and blue rays, almost like an old-school manga action panel, which helps capture the over-the-top joy of the moment.

At the center, a character (with a wide grin hidden under a mask and a mess of purple hair) proudly hoists up the golden Magikarp. The fish itself is oversized, glowing with radiant light as if it’s the rarest prize imaginable. Its blank, surprised expression adds just the right amount of humor, perfectly contrasting with the triumphant pose of its new trainer.

For me, this artwork is a mix of comedy and celebration. Anyone who’s played the games knows how special a shiny Magikarp is—it’s rare, unexpected, and almost silly when compared to other shinies. But that’s also what makes it amazing: it turns something common into something extraordinary.

This piece was fun to work on because it captures that exact feeling. Sometimes art doesn’t need to be serious or complex—it can just be about pure joy, color, and exaggeration. And in this case, it’s about appreciating a golden fish that shines brighter than it has any right to.
